Contemplative Worship

Previously in Lent……

I went to Illumine at Wakefield Cathedral. For those looking for a brief, quieter, more reflective church experience Illumine is for you! More details here and here.

For me this is a chance to walk around the Cathedral, and in particular the Labyrinth, bare foot (underfloor heating!). I am often looking for quieter ways of engaging in worship that involve less words. Anglican worship can often be very ‘wordy’ and ‘singy’. Just being, in the presence of the Lord, in His house, is all I want sometimes.

Missa is also another ‘alternative’ expression at Wakefield Cathedral. As they say, it’s “simple, multi generational, radical, contemplative, eucharist, prayer, song, silence”. What’s not to like!

This week the theme was Saint David (eve of), and aspects of service. The service sheet mentioned “Dewi Sant”, and the Canon Precentor had made a pattern of candles on the floor (daffodil – who knew), tweeting an invite to guess what/who. Nah! No idea!

Thankfully enlightenment is just one of many blessings encountered during worship 😉
