The Last Supper

A Maundy Thursday Reflection

“And it was night…”
Why am I here?

I cannot fail to weep.
I cannot help but to weep.
This moment seems to have it all!
The symbols, the story, the hope – all are here:
Feet, hands, water, towel, bread and wine.

Sent out with the ‘new’ words…
“You must love…”
There is more to come…
‘Be a servant, I’ll show you…’

You’re washing my feet..?

Then, betrayal by a friend… me?
And, of no help when we are needed… again and again…me again?
And then the kiss.

And everything changes.
All becomes darkness, for a while.
And I am in the midst of it all.
It all comes to pass, in me, of me, through me: for me?
And I am broken.
Yet lifted up and loved.
Remade, renewed…

And everything changes.
I won’t fall asleep, I won’t. I will.
I won’t turn aside or run away…. dear God please.
Might I have the strength and courage to remain, a while.
With those who need you most this night…

I will kindle a little light in the darkness,
And watch for you till morning.
When it will all change again.
